Why is this an international news story? It was even on the front page of Yahoo! for a while. Why make such a big deal about it? All that needed to be done was a few quiet, behind the scene calls. And if it was a mistake, the ring could have been quietly returned. By making it an international incident (literally), this is being used as an opportunity to embarrass Putin.
