They only hear what they want to here. I recently had a conversation with a cabbie in San Fran who didn't want his son to learn sex ed. I talked about what the alternatives were and what might happen if he had no education.
By the end of the ride, he agreed --- teach them so they can make better informed decisions.
I'm firmly in the "teach them everything" camp. But that's about everything. It's smarter to know what can happen. I shake my head at the willful ignorance of people who think that their kids aren't going to want to have sex. It's human nature. Tell them what they need to know. It's safer all around.
