Isn't the first rule: "First Do No Harm?"

I really hate this kind of stuff. The father did it because he wanted to get his son in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Guinness people have, very sensibly, said they don't condone this sort of thing. It leads to "bad medicine." And they're correct. People under the age of 18 go to college and medical school often these days. But they are never allowed to practice until they are 18.
Bad parents!
