Mitch McConnell is a liar

McConnell: The Public Option ‘May Cost You Your Life’

Mitch McConnell, who has fully paid government health care, lies about the health care bill.
Not a shock, as he a completely unprincipled hack.

Sheesh! Even Orange County laughed at her

'Birthers' lawsuit challenging Obama's election is dismissed

Orly Taitz can't even get a judge in ORANGE COUNTY, CA to send her case on. If you don't know, the OC is insanely Republican. And yet, even there a judge told her she was nuts. Except in a legal manner. Without the mocking and finger pointing I'd have thrown in.

Shocking and horrifying

trigger warning

More arrests expected in gang rape of 15-year-old Bay Area student

This has got to be one of the most horrifying stories I've read in years. A 15 year old girl is raped. And people stood around and watched and laughed and took cellphone pictures. For fuck sake! What they hell?
The girl had to be AIRLIFTED out. Meaning she was so badly injured that a simple ambulance ride was not fast enough to be of help.
Where were the parents and the chaperones? From the story, the attack lasted for 2 hours. Why didn't someone put a stop to it sooner?
Our society is sick. Really.

There should be no moderates in this debate

Moderate Democrats cool to government-run health plan

The Library of American Comics has just put out a collection of early Bloom County comic strips. (Stay with me on this, I promise it's germane.) You know what I've noticed a lot? Other than the fact that there is NO WAY he'd get the strips he published then by the current publishers of the Washington Post, that many of the things he was talking about in the days of Reagan is still around! From 1982 the jokes about health care reform are still exactly the same! In the "people wand affordable, public health care like MOST OF THE REST OF THE WORLD" sort of way.
So please, there is no moderation in this debate. There are legislators who want to move the country towards caring for everybody.
And there are obstructionists.
There are no moderates.

Also not a suprise

It's like mother, like daughter when it comes to aging

You know, I often wonder why stories get written. Hurray! So a study was done! It's not like this is really news.
My brother's been saying I look more like my mother pretty much every month. It's not a shock.

Simply unbelievable

Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

The Justice of the Peace says he denies the licenses because, "interracial couples don't stay together and it's not good for their children."
I'm sorry? What kind of massive patronizing bullshit is that?
Can someone please give this man a calendar and inform him that it is 2009?

Peace prize. Huh

Okay, here's the thing. It's not as if President Obama or the Administration nominated him for the award. Hell, he was in office for 13 days when the nomination process closed.
And really, what is he supposed to do? Say no?
I bet you anything he was as surprised as the rest of us.
I think his reaction is probably the best in the circumstance. He's humbled. And accepts the challenge. 'Cause you knows that's what it is. And I think it's a reflection of a good part of the rest of the world's current feeling. Relief and enthusiasm.
Now he's got to live up to the "Peace" part of the prize.

I've been avoiding looking at the right wing reactions. Because I just don't want to be exposed to unhinged yapping.
You know, I hated almost every single thing the Bush Administration did. Hell, you can find my feelings very clearly laid out in the archives of this blog. I think many of their activities were criminal. And I'm sure that down the road, we're going to find out that what we don't know about their activities was far worse than what we do know.
But I'm pretty sure that at no time ever did I call for 1)violence against Bush, 2)armed insurrection against him.
Can't say the same about the current opposition can we?

Oh hello ignorance!

Explicit 'Banned Book' Infuriates Virginia Father, Leads to School Review

Dude might as well be a book burner.
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky is an absolutely WONDERFUL book. I'm telling you now that I've given it to many many a teenager and they love the book. I've read it and think it's fantastic.
This close minded, ignorant censor is wrong. On every single level.
I pity him. And I pity his son. For having such a close minded fool for a parent.
