I have a feeling that the only reason at all that he admitted any sort of error is that they must have done some polling and his numbers must be tanking. But that's just me.
Yeah, sounds like a polling decision. So many people checked the box marked "Well, I really couldn't think much worse of him," they decided they might as well give it a shot.
